OC Paws is dedicated to improving the lives of dogs in our community through positive training programs and a proactive approach. We are excited to launch our new program aimed at helping people find and adopt a new companion from a local Orange County shelter. This program starts BEFORE you adopt a new dog. You will work with Stacy, an experienced animal care & training professional, and be guided through the process of finding a dog who is a good fit for your lifestyle and home. Stacy has years of experience working with clients and their dogs, of all ages and breeds. This has led to a thorough understanding of both client and dog needs. When it is possible to create a good match between a dog and owner, behavior & training goals come easily. This proactive approach to finding your new dog will benefit shelters and the community. The more dogs adopted from the local shelters, the better. This can ease the load of the shelter, the rescues who assist, and allow for more dogs to receive the care they need. The shelter system is far from perfect, but as a community – we should do our best to help the animals who find themselves in this position.
Program Details
The program will begin with a questionnaire & in-person consultation before finding or meeting a shelter dog to adopt. This allows Stacy to determine what breed (mix), age, size and behavior history will be a good fit for the client. Once this has been determined, Stacy will assist you in the search for your new companion at Orange County shelters. When it is time to meet the potential new companion, Stacy will go with you to the shelter to assess the dog and give objective feedback to the client. Once a dog is chosen to be adopted and is brought home, you will be guided through the steps to help this transition be as smooth as possible. Following this transition, you will have 3 private training lessons dedicated helping your dog thrive in their new home.
Every dog needs time to acclimate and transition in a new environment, and having an experienced animal behavior professional available is priceless. Anytime there is a transition, there will be behavior changes and some difficulties along the way – but Stacy can help you address these as they come up.
